PRINTING ELECTIVE.
The brief for this elective is on the space around us. I started thinking how we impact the space around us and how the space around us impacts us. I started experimenting with the scale of the person in proportion to the scale of the space. I squished my friend into some 'cosy' cupboards to see the effect it would have on his body. I figured that the contorted body would be an interesting idea for my prints to be based on..

Unique patterns
I nitoced that cardboard has a lovely pattern of zigzags sandwiched between the board and wanted to make the most of this quality. I cut the cardboard into slits and made grids of squares and rectangles.
Since the board is green on one side and brown on the other, depending on the angle you are viewing it from , the colour appears to shift when you move around it.
I experimented with different arrangements to see what interesting patterns would emerge .

Moving sculpture
I really like the idea of a sculpture that can physically change in appearance. I experimented with many different types of material and techniques of connecting as I tried to make a 3D object that could be manipulated and have a different effect without it being damaged or disassembled.
This moving sculpture is on a whole other playing field but I felt it blog-worthy, this is a video of an incredible kinetic sculpture. The fact that it is made entirely from cardboard(other than the motor) makes the natural-looking movement of the piece all the more impressive.

Sculpture Elective
I was very excited about starting the sculpture elective as I enjoyed that aspect of my project in semester 1. We were given the Brief on friday so I had the weekend to think about my project and plan, which made it difficult on Monday as I had constructed finished ideas for sculptures in my head which wasn't the correct way to go about doing the project. So after spending some time to un-think I got a handle of what the project was really about.
The task being asked of us was no longer to create sculpters around our five senses or our vital signs, but to make experimental structures with any materials you saw fit. We all picked a phsical word or two that came up during brainstorming. The word "connect" interested me and soo I thought of handy things for connecting and what I would need to connect them.

ants feeling like little people
While I waited in an airport for a flite that wasn't coming I couldn't help but feel like an ant. I was an insignificant little thing in a crowd of others like me, busying about trying to get to our destination, but trapped . Walking in lines and under survealance. I was feeling sorry for myself and guilty for keeping ants trapped in an antfarm for my own amusement. I was stuck for 36 hours, I didn't want to be an ant anymore.

dirty napkins
I made another stiched piece on another canvas that I made. This one is supposed to resemble the tiny ants crowding around a food source.
I saw that in a spot on the canvas I had spilt a drop of super glue, I used this to my advantage by turning it into a representation of a yellow liquid the ants have found and feed from.
